Professor Minker has made numerous contributions to computer science, human rights and science as a whole. His fundamental contributions to the fields of deductive databases, logic programming, artificial intelligence, and, more generally, logic-based methods are what he is best known for within the technical aspects of computer science. But his contributions go far beyond just the technical side of computer science. Professor Minker has had a long-term involvement in international human rights issues, especially those relating to fellow scientists working behind what used to be called the iron curtain and those living in other totalitarian countries. Minker has also had a major role in organizing and stimulating scientific discourse, exchange of ideas and promotion of new concepts and providing extraordinary support for younger researchers. He continues to be a role model for all scientists.
