Sartaj K Sahni

Sartaj Sahni earned his Ph.D. in 1973 from Cornell University. For more than 30 years since then, he has been involved in computing education at institutions such as the University of Florida, the University of Minnesota, and the National Technological University. He currently serves as Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer and Information Science and Engineering at the University of Florida.

Professor Sahni is an AAAS, ACM, and IEEE Fellow and a member of the European Academy of Sciences. He received the IEEE Computer Society Taylor L. Booth Award in 1997 and the W. Wallace McDowell Award in 2003. He received the Outstanding Professor Award from the Institute of Technology Student Board at the University of Minnesota, and he has been recognized as a Distinguished Professor at the University of Florida.

He has authored or co-authored 15 books, more than 160 refereed journal articles and book chapters, and 120 articles in refereed conference proceedings. He has served as an editor, co-editor, or associate editor for more than a dozen journals. Many of his major works have been translated into several other languages, spreading his influence on computing education throughout many other parts of the world.

Professor Sahni has served as Program Chair, General Chair, and Steering Committee member for a number of national and international conferences. He has chaired the National Technological Universitys Computer Science Curriculum Committee for more than 20 years during which he has been instrumental in graduate curriculum and course development with a broad impact on many students in diverse locations. Through his highly successful texts, fundamental research contributions, NTU-related efforts, contributions to professional societies, more than 35 Ph.D. students, and his teachings, Sahni has had enormous global impact on Computer Science education.
