Dr. Gorn's many years of service to ACM include membership on the Council, 1958-62 and 1964-68, and Editorial Board, 1962-68; editor of the Standards section of Communications, 1962-68; and past chairman of the ACM Committee on Social Responsibilities 1958-59, Standards Committee 1962-68, and the Committee for the Formation of New Publications 1956-67. As a scientist and the author of numerous technical papers in computer science, Dr. Gorn has made major contributions to the development of programming languages"
