For sustained, effective service during the past two decades through ACM activities in SIGPLAN, the SIG Governing Board, and Council.
Mark Scott Johnson has served in many ACM positions during the past 20 years or so. He has served as program or conference chair for several SIGPLAN conferences and has also served as SIGPLAN Vice-Chair and Chair. From 1989 to 1998 he held many positions with the ACM SIG Board, including Vice Chair, Chair, and Policy Advisor. He has been a member of the ACM Council both as a SIG representative and as a Regional Representative, and he also has served on the Awards Committee from 1993 to 1999.
His tenure as Vice Chair and Chair of the SIG Board was one of community building among the large and small SIGs and ACM Headquarters staff, an effort that was successful largely due to Mark Scott's leadership. His appointment as Policy Advisor to the SIG Board is indicative of the respect for his contributions by those who have worked with him. His analysis and recommendations are widely respected, and he has made many important behind-the-scenes contributions to efforts such as the most recent revision of the ACM Constitution and Bylaws.
